Vulnerable Children Toolkit

Why this toolkit?

Across the globe, millions of young children – particularly in vulnerable and low-income

environments – face significant challenges that threaten their survival, protection, health, learning, and development. Early childhood (ages 0-5) is the most critical period of human development: 90% of brain development occurs before age 5, and early experiences shape lifelong outcomes in health, learning, education, and social participation.

Solution For All Communities

What is the purpose?

It is a practical, action-oriented resource that empowers communities to become drivers of positive change in their own contexts.

This toolkit addresses three critical and interconnected issues affecting vulnerable children in early childhood:

  • Mental Health – The foundational wellbeing needed for all healthy development
  • Gender-Based Violence (GBV) – Violence that threatens safety and dignity from the earliest years
  • Early Childhood Education and Holistic Development – The learning and care environments that build strong futures

Who needs it?

While governments and big businesses need to do more, local groups have an important role to play. Engaging with the hearts, heads and hands of the local community is crucial. The toolkit helps a new community group to form, or an existing group to review progress and refresh itself, and to develop its initiatives.
